Baldwin, William or G. B.: Beware the Cat (1570, 1584), with 16th century typography
Biographical & literary references to William Baldwin from Joseph Ames/Thomas Dibdin, William Carew Hazlitt, John Payne Collier, Joseph Ritson, & A.H. Bullen.
To the reader:
In the interests of giving a visual flavour of the original publications, one version of the text(s) will be reproduced for the most part with the alphabet in which it was printed. The present day letter 'u' was occasionally rendered as 'v', whilst 'v' might be found as 'u', 's' as 'f' (sometimes without the horizontal stroke), 'j' as an 'i', and 'w' as 'vv', etc. There may possibly have been an aesthetic requirement in the choice of letter. Small-sized gifs have been used to represent the 's/f', although those with a more recent generation of browser could, if they so wished, substitute "ſ" for the letter ( & + # + 383 + ; — by substituting this for the " fs1.gif " image in the source code).
Fonts can be found in 'fonts.zip', although it is recommended to use those already on the computer if the same font name. Zip files can be extracted using the zip utility file from various software firms including Winzip International.
