To the reader:
In the interests of accuracy one version of the text(s) will be reproduced for the most part with the alphabet in which it was printed. The present day letter 'u' was occasionally rendered as 'v', whilst 'v' might be found as 'u', 's' as 'f' (sometimes without the horizontal stroke), 'j' as an 'i', and 'w' as 'vv', etc. There may possibly have been an aesthetic requirement in the choice of letter. Small-sized gifs have been used to represent the 's/f', although those with a more recent generation of browser could, if they so wished, substitute "ſ" for the letter (&+#+383+; — see source code).
